We are extremely excited to be working with Muskegon Yacht Club as the host venue for our first-ever Region 3 High School and College Qualifier, a true breakthrough event for foiling development on Lake Michigan. This regatta represents an important step forward in building a clear pathway for young sailors in the region, MYC’s facilities, location, and community support make it a perfect fit. Together, we look forward to delivering a memorable event that sets a new standard for regional high school and collegiate foiling competition.

Located on the shores of Muskegon Lake, Muskegon Yacht Club offers one of the most compelling sailing venues on Michigan’s west coast. Muskegon Lake stretches roughly 4.6 miles in length, providing a broad, protected, and visually stunning racecourse that is ideal for high-level competition and skill development. Its close connection to Lake Michigan delivers consistent, reliable breezes while maintaining the accessibility and safety of an inland venue—an ideal combination for both emerging and experienced sailors. Beyond the water, the Muskegon area is known for its welcoming waterfront, vibrant summer atmosphere, and strong sailing culture, making it an excellent destination for athletes, families, and spectators alike.

Historical Sailing Conditions on Muskegon Lake:

Muskegon Lake, spanning 4,149 acres, is a drowned river mouth lake connecting to the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. During the summer, the lake typically offers flat conditions, though a sustained strong east breeze can occasionally generate larger waves. Racecourses can be strategically placed to avoid long stretches of open water, minimizing wave impact.

Motorboat traffic rarely presents issues, and occasional commercial vessels are managed through coordination between the PRO and the vessels to prevent interference with racing. Muskegon Lake is known for its consistent westerly breezes and serves as a sheltered and reliable venue for competitive sailing. The June racing season brings pleasant temperatures and favourable wind conditions, making it an ideal location for sailors to enjoy challenging and rewarding events.
