US SAILGP TEAM FOILING CLINIC #4

Tier 3 | Training

US Sailing Center Martin County (USSCMC), Jensen Beach, FL, United States

16 March 2023 - 19 March 2023

Event Information:

The US Sailing Center, Martin County, is pleased to offer to US SailGP Team and We CAN Foil a host location to continue their efforts to introduce sailors to foiling.

The Waszp Class is an excellent entry into the process of learning to sail high performance boats. The skill sets involved in sailing a Waszp, coupled with the one-design concept and relatively low boat cost compared with other foiling boats (Moth, F101) make it ideal. The simplicity of the design, the performance of the boat and the wide range of sailors that can be supported is unequalled.  The boat can manage weight ranges of 110 pounds to over 200 pounds. With wind ranges of 8 knots (lighter sailors) to over 20 knots, the latest design versions are robust enough to support daily sailing activity without a lot of adjustment or repair. The sailor can be up and foiling in a short time and the boat supports foil tacking and foil jibing with experience and practice.  One of the principles of the Waszp design is, “How do we grab kids who sailed Opti’s or in high school and keep them in sailing?” Sailing a Waszp is just a lot of fun.
